Still Recycling Christmas Ornaments & Bargains

IMG_0022.JPGRemember I’ve been recycling some of my old ornaments so I can use them on my new tree.  On this ornament the small lines I used two sided tape.

If you look at the very bottom of the ornament (click the picture to enlarge it) you can see I have already done one ring in black glitter.  Now you can also see some of the gold glitter but when you put it on the tree you can’t see the gold glitter.

IMG_0033.JPGI’ve had these ornaments for probably 10 years.  I love these ornaments because of all the detail and the size of them.

IMG_0034.JPGHere is the finish product.  This is done in layers because you need to let the different glitters dry in between.  I first did the dark glitter (MS’s black fine glitter) and then came back and glued MS’s fine silver glitter.

Once the gitter is dry I took liquid silver leaf and painted the tops and bottoms.  I took a paint brush and dipped it into the silver leaf and ran it around the rope rings and embellished the paper ribbon on the ornaments.

These absolutely came out beautiful and look great on the tree.  The rewarding part about this has been taking what I have and making it over.  It may be the color combination or just the fact of being creative but I have enjoyed making some of my beloved items into new things for the tree.

I’m still working on the tree and the mantle but little by little it is coming together.  Stay tuned I will eventually take a picture and get it posted.

How to Dress A Box

IMG_0036.JPGI found this cute gift that came in this little plain looking box. I decided to embellish this box rather than try to wrap it.

I’m starting out using a coffee filter (this will hold the glitter and embossing powders).  I’m using Staz-on embossing gel and some black embossing powder.  I also used the new Marvy Snow Pen and MS’s snow glitter.

IMG_0040.JPGI took the Staz-on Embossing Gel and covered a side of the box and then took the embossing powder and poured it over that side of the box allowing the filter to catch the overflow.

One thing we (my BFF and I) discovered is when you do glittering and embossing over the filter you can then easily pour it back into the container.  What I do is get out my tray and then put the filter inside the tray, this way if I miss the filter the tray has caught the overflow and I still have an easy way to clean up.  I have a large tray and can actually fit two or three coffee filters in it and move easily from embossing powder to glittering on a project.

IMG_0039.JPGI did each side of the box one at a time.  If you look real close you can see that the embossing powder did not cover the side completely, but that is not an issue.  I reapply some more embossing gel and re-apply the powder and re-heat.

The last part of the box that I embossed is the bottom panel.

IMG_0043.JPGLooks great!

I took the lid and the Marvy Snow Cap pen and followed the same process of painting the tops and sides with it and before it dried I covered it with MS’s snow glitter.  Once dry I took the heat embossing gun and heated it up.

IMG_0044.JPGHere it is all finished up.  The bottom is black embossed and the top snow capped with snow giltter.  I then took some red ribbon to add a accent and in the next picture look at the snowflake embellishment.

IMG_0045.JPGThe snowflake is cut from the white chipboard that I showed on Dec 1, 2009.  I took the snowflake and ran it through the Xyron and then glittered it.  A little red crystal to embellish and tie the red ribbon in and this little box became a jewel.

Now I know you are wondering what is inside but I can tell what it is because it is a Christmas gift for someone who reads my post.  I’ll try to remember to tell you after Christmas because I think it is a really cute gift.

So, when the box is too small to wrap don’t forget you can embellish it with a little snow glitter and embossing powder.

Happy Thanksgiving Card

IMG_0030.JPGI received this beautiful card from my BFF.  Her cards always blow me away.  She has a very neat and clean style and her color combinations make the focal point stand out.

This stamp is a $1 stamp from M’s, but she took some Flowersoft and added it to the tree and ground.  This took it from a barren tree in Winter to an Autumn tree loosing it leaves.  This addition of the Flowersoft adds a great dimension to the card and it was the perfect amount.

Add a little border (colored with the MCPT) and it compliments and finishes the front.

IMG_0031.JPGOpen the card and the sentiment has the right amount of flourish.  It makes me think of a wind blowing across the tree causing the leaves to fall.

Makes you want to pour yourself a cup of hot cocoa with a peppermint stirrer and marshmallows.

What makes this card more precious is I know she is pressed for time because she is on the fast track program for becoming a nurse.  Yet she took the time to make me a card………….awesome!  Thanks Phyllis, and you know this goes on my card holder so it can be admired and I think I’m going to scrap lift this one!

How to Get Revenge – well sort of!

IMG_0024.JPGWell, about every 5 years  (now you know how old I am) I have to have a colonoscopy and lucky me, this is my year.  Actually, the prep is worst than the procedure.

My first experience  (back in 2004) with this didn’t go well and I really did dread having to go through it again.  Then it happened!  Progress in how things were done, advancement in procedures and medicines.

Red got the prescription filled and instead of it being 128 oz of medicine it was only 64 oz.  Long story short it all went extremely well and a clean bill of health.

IMG_0025.JPGSo, I thought I would take this box and enact a little revenge on the container of the medicine that I had to pay for that put me through a little bit of discomfort.  There is some comfort in that for some reason and it was very therapeutic to be able to cut it up.

I will be using it for chipboard on some tags, ornaments and decorations.  I’ll show this medicine (well medicine box) who really is boss!  Kidding aside I like this white chipboard when using for items that need a nice white background.  The white coating on the box allows the chipboard to cut cleaner.  It’s a little slick but I haven’t had any problem of gluing on it or embossing on it with this white coating.

I’m trying to make a 22″ Christmas Tree out of chipboard and these pieces are too small but they will make great pieces to cut smaller chipboard pieces .

Stay tuned, I’ll be showing you some items I’ve been working on while I was “working” through the prep.
