Then He was 5! Oh My!
It does not seem possible that my DGS is 5 years old today. This weekend we had his 5th Birthday Party and I’m telling you this was one happy little dude! I caught him with chocolate cake all over his mouth!
He had his party at a place called BounceTown. This is a place that has various bounce houses, air hockey, a shuffle board and a place to have the cake and presents all in air conditioned facilities. In Texas this is a must and it is self contained so it is easy to keep up with all the excited kids!
This has been one busy week, with Mom getting sick (we had to go to 3 different places to get her treated), Gareth’s B-Day and Papa and NaeNae keeping GKs, and playing a little handy man for Daughter #2. Unfortunately, during most of that time I had a bad headache and didn’t get much sleep.
I made Garth’s B-card using the Everyday Paperdolls and George Carts. The sentiment is a $1 stamp from M”s (love that).
I double cut his hair and enhanced it with Copics (YR68, YR14, E37). His checks are R22 and I used ColorBox’s Bronze ink pad to ink around his face hands and feet. The 5 has Glossy Accents on it to give it some dimension and I put it and his hair on some foam tape to give them a little lift. I cut the little “rocker” out of scraps I had in my stash.
I glittered the star in the sentiment with MS’s red glitter and used a white pen to draw the doodling around the blue star, pants and guitar. I drew in the strings and frets on the guitar to give it a little more depth.
The little “rocker” and his guitar and everything else are cut at 3.5″; however, I cut his hair at 3.0″. It seemed to big to cut at the 3.5″.
Here is the in side and we attached a $5 bill since he was turning 5. Of course I think he had 2 other gifts from us to make sure he was covered.
Later when I asked him if he liked his card, he told me that he was not a “Rock Star”, he said, “Really, NaeNae I’m not”! Gotta love it, they don’t mind telling you how they feel!
In my books he is, he drums like crazy and he already has a real guitar, loves music and we all know that the girls go after musicians!
Happy Birthday Sweetheart!
Ok, Getting my Legs Back
Just a short post to let you know I haven’t forgotten everyone.
This is my second week to work full time again and I’m just now getting to feel like I’m not wiped out every evening. I’m going to try to get some craft things done this weekend so I can start posting things.
I need to make the 3rd in a series of flowers so hopefully I’ll get that up sometime next week. Please be patient with me as I figure out how to work all day, teach a Bible Class and get a post done.
Thanks for stopping by and be sure and leave me a comment.
Sympathy Card
Hi everyone! We’ll it feels like forever since I posted something new. I apologize for being MIA, going back to work has really messed up my schedule.
This is a sympathy card I made for a friend who recently lost her husband. This has been on my workstation for over a week. I can’t take the credit for this card. You can see the original design over at iEmbellish. Be sure and click on the link and see her beautiful card.
I found a stamp that I had that was similar and then I stamped (using Black Tuxedo by Memento’s) it multiple times to get a fuller image. I also hand drew in some stems and leaves, then colored it with Copics. On the leaves and stems I used G82, G99, YG95 and on the flower petals I used R81, R83, R85 and RV06. I used yellow Stickles to give the centers a little glitz.
I used CB Embossing Folder called “Bird Swirls” and I also heat embossed the black mats with Stampendous Embossing Powder called Marcasite. I really like this particular embossing powder because it is a mix of black and silver. The paper is a shimmer paper I picked up at my local craft store. A little black ribbon and this elegant simple card is done.
For the inside I did the same black matting and heat embossing the edges as I did on the front. Stamped the sentiment and heat embossed it with black. I used a square nestibilites for a template and took a Sakura Clear Star gel pen to draw around both the outside and inside of the nestibilities.
If you click on the picture it will open up and you will see the $1 stamp (from M’s of course) that I used to make the focal point for the front of the card.
Looks like an entirely different stamp when you put multiple images together…..sweet. I feel like I got my $$’s worth out of this.
You would have thought I would have had a Father’s Day card, since it is Father’s Day! This year I did the unthinkable, I bought my Father a Father’s Day card. I needed to mail it and I knew I would not have time to get one made. We had to have my DH’s Father Day today since my oldest Daughter was headed to her Father-in-laws for Father’s Day. That is the way we roll….we try to be accommodating knowing that they are divided between two families.
Hopefully, I’ll get back to a regular schedule of posting soon. Having to learn new systems and doing somethings I haven’t had to do in 15 years (like figuring mutual fund exchanges and re-balancing a portfolio) is taking a little more brain power than I’m used to using.
Thanks for stopping by and leave me a comment, I love hearing from you.
Happy Father’s Day!!
Red Green in Wylie
Oh my, my poor umbrella has been beaten up this year!
My umbrella last year got knocked over and broke, so I ran out this year and bought another one (they run $40.00 @ Garden Ridge).
I think I had this one all of two weeks when the wind caught it and ripped it right out of the stand and threw it in the yard and broke it too!
So, I’m refusing to spend another $40 for another umbrella this year!
I decided I would do a little Red Green engineering. For those of you who are not familiar with the Red Green Show, it is a silly (man show) about a guy who fixes everything with duct tape among other silly lodge stuff that they do.
Now , I want you to notice my duct tape is green (keeping it classy). I took a piece of molding and duct tapped it to the broken arm hoping to get a little more time out of the umbrella.
It’s not perfect but it is holding that umbrella up better than it was. I even used some duct tape to patch a whole in the umbrella (nice!).
My DH came out at the end of the repair to explain to me how it should be done……….right honey! It’s needed repair for weeks and for some reason the moment I decide to fix it he wants to give instructions…LOL!
At this point in the Texas Summer, I just need the umbrella to give some shade to my plants that are sitting on the deck. Let’s hope my Red Green engineering gets us through the rest of the Summer.
First Day at Work!
Just a short post tonight. I hope to have something in the next few days. Today was my first day at work and it will take me a few days to get my schedule figured out.
So, stay tuned I’m working on a sympathy card that I think you’ll like.
Miniature Roses
Hi Everyone, below is the second video in the series of Homemade Flowers. Enjoy!
These are so much fun to make, and yes that is another song of my #2 Daughter. Be sure and leave me a comment and let me hear from you!
Bummer!!!
Hi, everyone! Well, it’s official I’m going back to work full time on Monday. Not exactly what I wanted to do, but it is something I need to do and give the old retirement nest egg some much needed rest.
Luckily, I found a good job right where I live and my commute is only going to be 5 minutes…..the last time I had a 5 minute commute was when I worked as an attendance clerk for the High School. My hours are pretty sweet too…9 – 5. I get to sleep till 7 and then get myself up and on the treadmill and get my exercise done before I start my day.
Ok, enough about that stuff. Take a look at these flowers. They are all handmade. I’m working on some videos (this is not as easy as everyone makes it seem) and they are going to show you how to make each one of these beauties.
Each time I make one of them I think it is my favorite until I make another one.
This is one of the intricate cuts that is on the solution cartridge Summer in Paris. I cut this using a light weight card stock and it cut beautifully. The blade I was using was not new so that is even more impressive.
I used this piece as an embellishment to airbrush with Copics at the Certification Class. Yhea, I’m going to have to have those power tools. Power tools for crafts…..oh that makes me giddy.
I’ll do my best to get the second video up in the next couple of days on how to make the little roses. Then after that we will have to play it by ear how much I get done now that I’m working 9-5, what a way to make a livin’.
Be sure and come back or better yet sign up to get a notification when something new is posted. The subscribe box is on the side bar at the top.
Certified!!!
Ok, I’m officially a Copic Certified Designer.
Spent the entire day yesterday learning so much. I am so glad I took the time and paid the $$ to do this class.
Somethings I already new but having that hands on experience and them showing some techniques made a lot of those “aha” moments. I can tell you they are also enablers, I want one of the air brush systems now!
Stay tune, as I start putting the knowledge together and I’ll show you some of the techniques. They will be a lot easier to understand now that I can show you through video.
Let me tell you I made a beautiful flower on Saturday that I can’t wait to show you how to do it. So simple, and the colors are so beautiful. So keep visiting and keep your eyes open for the next video installment.
New Golf Things
We finally broke down and bought a golf organizer thingy for our golf clubs.
I didn’t tell Red that we had one of these several years ago and he got rid of it.
It certainly makes things a lot neater. Red’s clubs used to stay in the garage until someone told him that was bad for them. Red said, “now my room is beginning to look like a man cave.”
Of course this is my new bag. Red had gone into Dick’s not to long ago for some golf gloves and I found this nice standing bag. He said, “All I wanted is some golf gloves and I walked out with buying Sherri two gloves and a new stand bag.” ” How does that happen?”
It’s just so girlie with the black and pink but it is a better bag than what I had. Because it is a stand bag it has two legs that spring forward to help it stand up on it’s on and it has a harness with two shoulder straps.
Makes it a lot easier to carry. However, at that PGA store today I found a cart bag in black and white houndstooth. I do love houndstooth.
I’m sure Red is thinking….boy, we don’t both need to be in this expensive sport. LOL!
Well, I’m working on getting everything together I need for my Copic Certification Class tomorrow. I’ll be on the road early to get there at the time it starts. I am so excited………can you tell! I’ve got the Garmin all juiced up and the addy in so I can find where they are having the class. Love GPS!
So, while I was getting everything ready, Henry was enjoying a relaxing nap. Click on the picture and check out his tail. He is so relaxed.
I’ve been working on a new flower technique and I hope to have the kinks worked out and up next week. This will be the next in my video series and I’ll will be demonstrating mini-roses (a knock off of the Prima roses).
Thanks for dropping by and I’ll be posting how the Copic Certification goes!
Homemade Flowers
Hi Everyone, I’m starting a series of videos on homemade flowers. I make several different kinds using various materials and techniques.
The first video will be on Folded Paper Roses. Enjoy!
The song that introduces the video and ends the video was written by my #2 Daughter. You can hear the entire song here it’s call Grocery Store Hot. The version playing on the video is the original piece and the singer is my daughter. The version playing on her song space is another version from a man’s perspective. I love the way it cuts off on the video right at the place she starts singing about things sagging……cracks me up!
Thanks for dropping by and leave me a comment, love hearing from you.
