Come on Spring!
It’s February right! I have this bush that blooms in yellow flowers about this time. It’s great in a flower bed that is pretty dreary. I was also pleasantly surprised to see my lavendar had so far survived the hot summer and the winter.
This is also leap year, an extra day in our calendar. Do something fun! Yeah, I know most of us have to work but we can also do something a little extra at the end of the day.
I also love it when I have learned how to do something new. This will help me put the steps to my projects in a much easier order. This is my first picture collage.
Picking Exterior Paint Color
Now that the windows are done (Whew!!!!), they are just primed so they need to be painted.
Back in the heat of the Summer I tried to start painting. I got everything scraped down and bought the paint. My DH decided that the guttering needed replacing before we painted. The new guttering is not the same color as the paint I purchased for the house.
On my trusty new “To Do” Home list this did go.
Because you know if it is on the list it will get done, just so I can wipe it off.
Yeah, yeah the deck and 1,000 other things need to be done. You don’t live in the same house for 26 years without reaching that point where everything seems to break, come apart or start leaking all at once.
Remember when my Dining Room went from this color.
Turns out it’s the same color we need to paint the exterior wood on the house to match the guttering. Apparently, I really like this color. Hmmm, maybe I’ll paint my front door black and the little trim around the glass in white or maybe I’ll paint the trim on the windows white after they have been painted. Oh boy, something else to add to may project list!
The trick t picking exterior paint color, is make sure it goes with the brick on your house if you have brick, but most of all make sure it is something you love because it is expensive to paint and exterior if you have to pay someone. Yes, I could do it but DH is willing to pay someone and I’m going to take him up on that!
Constant State of Flux
My “Woman Cave” is always in a constant state of change.
I started out with just “Jet Max Cubes” and a glass top table from Ikea
I love Ikea!!!!!
I was looking for a way (I wasn’t looking real hard) to keep up with the ideas that roll around in my head.
I tried to keep them up on a bulletin board but before you know it they get hidden.
The other day I was with my BFF (Phyllis) @ where else Ikea and found these semi-clear (frosted) dry erase glass boards. Ok, I bought one on the spot and had to go back and get the second.
I love them! They run $20 and they are easy to install. I’m a visual person (I can conceive it in “my mind’s eye) and then I want to see it on the wall.
I start out by cutting/folding/manipulating newspaper to the exact size of the object I want to hang. Then I tape it to the wall and rearrange until I get what I want.
Then I start the process of hanging and making sure everything is level.
Pull out the Tom Girl drill gun (love this) and the hardware (or plastic in this case).
The Tom Girl drill is a “Compact Drill”. What that means is it gives you a little help in screwing things in.
Here is what the piece looks like un-packaged and ready to hang. Trick here is to be sure and put the frosted side of the glass against the wall.
You could dress it up by putting some decorative paper behind it (that is the way Ikea had theirs displayed) but I like to see the color of the paint coming through and it makes it feel transparent.
While the paper is still in place I install the first hanger/holder/screw. You know the things you buy at Ikea have unique hardware.
The nice thing about this hardware is there is room to adjust and have a little play. I get one installed (then I can place a level across the top). This ensures I’m on line for the next hardware to be screwed in the wall.
Sweet, hung and ready to draw on it. Dry Erase markers work perfectly!
Now I have everything in place, a place for “To Do” for the house, “To Do” for craft projects and my schedule for various items I want to do. A place to hold notices and other items I want to have handy.
When I complete something or the date has past I can just erase it off and add more. Yep, loving this and the fact that it is frosted makes it feel light and airy.
Now I need to do something with this old ceiling fan (26 years old to be exact) maybe a Chandelier?……Ikea has one that will fit this room perfectly. Would that be appropriate a “Woman Cave” with a Chandelier……….yes, oh yes adding this to my “To Do” Home project list, cost about $40!
By the way the opinions are my own, I’m not getting paid by anyone to say nice things about their products.
Where There is a Will!
I had my Spellbinders in CD cases but they never did really work out for me.
I had seen people use the Clip-n-Up but I didn’t want something else sitting on my desk or creative space.
A recent trip with BFF to Ikea and I found the perfect thing to combined what I have seen with what I have available.
These are curtain rings with a little clip o the end. You get 10 for $3.99.
So onto a tension rod and into the closet they did go. Yes, you see the clothes rods still in place but they are nailed in and I didn’t want to mess up my newly painted closet and trim trying to get them out.
I’ll have to make the sleeve that will fit the Spellbinder but I love this idea and I can walk into the closet and see exactly what I have. I can push them out of the way when I don’t need them or need to get to something behind them in the closet.
It didn’t cost that much. I had the tension rod and bought 3 pkgs of curtain ring hooks….$12 plus tax.
Yep! I added another project to my board………hmmm, I’ll have to show you that Ikea find too, but it is not quite finished yet and I don’t want to show the reveal until I’ve got it completed.
Windows – Whew!
Our house was built in 1986 and back then boxed windows were popular.
They were great for our girls, they had a little window seat to sit in and read if they wanted to.
However, 26 years of weather they were needing some repair.
We had 4 windows in various states of repair and we found a great carpenter that did the work in 1 day.
A kitchen window, a breakfast room window and two bedroom windows (or should I say 1 Woman Cave window and one Office window).
They replaced all the wood caulked and primed and now we are ready to get the house painted.
This looks 100% better than before, when carpenter ants had destroyed the wood.
Slowly but surely we are getting things done. Still have the bath tub faucets in the Master-bath to get done, but we have made up our mind on what we are going to do and in a couple of weeks we will get that done. When that happens it means I’ll probably have to redo the cabinets in there. That’s ok I have to redo the cabinets in my hall bath.
My Mom told me today she wants her cabinets painted too! I guess I’ll make a new list and start adding these projects.
What’s next – Embossing?
At one of our favorite stores (Stamp Asylum) we have discovered a couple of different items.
Shabby White Embossing Enamel – it has some gold glitter in it and Walnut Ink Crystals.
Maybe some tags using these two items. This is not new stuff, but we haven’t used it so it’s new to us.
I’m adding that to my project list!
Fun Stuff @ M’s $1.50 Spot
Always looking for something cute to find at M’s $1.50 spot (used to be $1).
Initial napkin rings! I was excited because I was able to find all the initials we needed!
Now all I need is napkins…….oh wait, I think I can make some. Another project for my list of things to do! Hmm…maybe some linen that is burlap color to match my dining decor.
Owl Cute is This!
I work with a lady that I discovered is into crafting as much or more than I am. She offices in Ft Worth, TX and I office in Dallas.
Around the various holidays we receive through the interoffice mail, little goodies and this is the one she sent me and my co-workers for Valentines.
This is a large pillow box and then the outside was decorated to look like an owl and the inside was stuffed with goodies.
The shapes to make this pillow box look like an owl is so simple, various sizes of circles a heart and a couple of ovals. However, when placed just right the cute little owl comes into existence.
I loved this as an adult can you imagine how a kid would feel to received something this cute.
This closure is so simple but so effective. Unfortunately, the flap torn a little when I went after the chocolate inside.
One flat has a half circle cut out of it and then when you close the two flaps together it interlocks and holds the goodies in place.
Tinsel? Just For Christmas?
I am always on the look at for “stuff” that I can use in my crafting projects.
So excited when we (BFF and I) found these two rolls of vintage looking tinsel @ 40% off at Michael’s.
These rolls were large so we did what any BFFs would do, we split them.
I don’t think tinsel is just for Christmas when you are a Crafter. This little batch is for my Mom, Crafters share!
I think I’m going to try my hand at a Valentine tag. I know Valentine’s is over but I have until the end of the month to upload my creation on to Tim Holtz’s Blog…who knows maybe I’ll win something (LOL)!
