Another January Calendar
Sweeeeet! I’m loving this! Excellent job Phyllis. Love the blue and the netting at the top. Oh and look there is a star on the 14th…….hmmm, could that be someone I knows B-day. Be sure and double click on the picture to see all the yummy goodness!
Hope you enjoyed coloring this one. Now on to February’s.
Unfortunately, I’ve been down in my back and haven’t wanted to think much about doing anything crafty. Today, I went to the chiropractor and he works miracles…..feeling so much better.
So, stay tune I’ve got a sweet idea floating around in my head for February.
Calendar – January Month
Ok, here is my January calendar.
Sorry, about the late post. I’ve been trying to restore my Christmas gift (Cricut Imagine) however, I have had not success and I’m in the process of shipping it back.
I printed the calendar out on Bristol Smooth and then I used Zing clear embossing powder and embossed the image. I have an HP printer and sometimes it takes a long time to dry.
I started coloring the background of the design. I picked 3 colors in the same family color for this month.
Here is my color scheme. Along with this I used Memento ink in Lady Bug, Rose Bud and Angel Pink to ink the edges.
After the background is done I started the next layer. The only thing you need to decide here is what part of the design you are going to color a particular color. There is no right or wrong answer to that just decide and be consistent through out the pattern and process of coloring.
The final layer of color is the deep RV29. A little of this goes a long way.
Once everything is colored in I use the light color and go back over the entire design to blend the colors together and to fill in any white space that might be peeking through anywhere.
I added some depth with the N1 on the background so it would give more dimension to the pattern and then I used some pink Stickles to outline every other row of the pattern. I used yellow Stickles on one design.
The font used on this calendar is so thin and light I took my multiliner pen and darkened up the month.
I also used a TH stamp (thank you Phyllis) to add a little flourish to the calendar and a HB (Happy Birthday) stamp on the 14th….that’s my birthday.
I took a stardust Sakura pen and enhanced the flourish.
To finish up I first ink the edges with Angel Pink and then went back with Rose Bud and finished off with Lady Bug (Memento Inks).
I used seam binding and custom colored it with the inks and let it dry. I attached a little silver ornament and she is done.
I have a bulletin board over my desk where I’ll hang this little jewel and then as I add each month I’ll eventually use a ring to hold them altogether.
I think what I’m going to do is write certain events on the back of the calendar that happened during that month as reminders of what has gone on through the year. By the end of 2011 I’ll have a little tag looking calendar and a list of interesting things that happened in 2011 as a reminder. Guess it is a little different take on the TH 12 tags of Christmas. Maybe I’ll call the SB 12 tags of Year 2011.
Color Me Calendar
All right all you Copic Marker Fans, let me give you some inspiration for this next year. Here is a link to LulaLouise.com (she is a graphic designer). This PDF is a 2011 calendar that you can color yourself (oh yeah, did I tell you it is free!). http://lulalouise.com/patterns/LL2011ColorYourCalendar.pdf
I’ve done January (you’ll see it on tomorrows post) but I’m having to let it dry. I would love for you to join me each month and show me how you are coloring your calendar. I figure if we do one month at a time, it won’t be so overwhelming. You can leave me a comment and your website if you have one or send me the picture and I’ll display it on Talent is Optional.
Let’s get January up by the 15th and then let’s have February done by 2/22. Watch tomorrow for January, it’s a mixture of Copic, Stickles and Tim Holtz.
WMSC Challenge #15 – aka Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge
I’m participating in Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #15. You can find them at www.waltzingmouse.blogspot.com and see all the other creations.

The paper is from My Mind’s Eye Kraft Cardstock. Love this paper pad. Because this pad is all kraft papers the pattern papers look faded out with subtle patterns.
Be sure and click on the picture to get a full view. This is one of those cards that you end up making when you can’t sleep. The stamps and ribbon are $1 finds at M’s over the past year. Very simple process – 1st I stamped the words and embossed them with Bronze embossing powder. Next I found a decorative label stamp and then centered the word and stamped it and embossed with the same color of embossing powder. I grundged the top of the tags just using my fingers to curl the edges and then I used my E31 & E33 Copic Markers to add some additional aging.
I didn’t include a sentiment because I believe the words on the card are enough. Sweet words to live by!
Birthday Tag
The tag itself is made from 2 pieces of cream card stock cut at 4 x 6 then glued together. I wanted it to be thicker that just ordinary card stock but not as thick as chipboard.
Click on the picture to enlarge it so you can see the detail. I first took one piece of the card stock (cs) and embossed it with Tim Holtz Sizzix embossing folder. I just want to stop right here and tell you these embossing folders are terrific. They seem to emboss deeper than the other embossing folders. I then glued both tags together and used distressed inks to color the cream cs (Wild Honey, Brushed Corduroy, Spun Sugar, Shabby Shutters and Stormy Skies).
The metal 2 and the crown and the butterfly wings are elements from the workshop I attended with Tim Holtz. I used alcohol inks to color the 2 and copic markers to color the hearts on the crown. The happy birthday is from Paperwishes (Hot off the Press) Mix your Messages.
The label is cut with Nestibilites Label 4 and I left the tag in the die cut and inked the blue leaving the middle light. When you take off the die cut it gives you a perfect border. Which in this case is glittered with yellow German Glass.
The flower is homemade using copic markers to add some color. You can see that technique done here.
I cut the U out at 2″ x 2″ using Plantin Cart with caps on. I cut this out of thin chipboard twice and glued them together then I colored them with my copics markers in various greens.
The 3 gold dots on the U are made using Viva Glitter Liner in gold. Although similar to Stickles this product does not flatten out as it drys. That way you can make your own glitter caps, dots, or balls (whatever you want to call them) and they stay raised. If you use it as a line it stays raised adding texture to your card, scrapbook page, or altered art. The ribbon is actually vintage seam binding that I got here. Absolutely love this stuff.
You can’t see the jumbo eyelet in this photo but it was cream and I colored it with copics (a green). I then slipped ring in the eyelet and started tying various ribbons on the ring to finish off the tag.
I wrote her a personal note and tied it to a gift bag.
Sometimes making a large tag adds a nice change to giving a card. Just as purposeful, you still have a place to put a sentiment or right a note, but you don’t have to decorate both sides ……unless you want to.
I think it turned out great, especially since I was having such a difficult time being creative. Actually, this kick started me back in to my creative MOJO!
So, let’s see what I can come up with, my Mother is turning 82, Sunday, Septmeber 19th so I need to make her card. So stay tune
Homemade Flowers Series – Video 4
Hi everyone! I hope you have been enjoying the Homemade Flower Series. Here is Video 4, so enjoy and be sure and try some of these flowers. Once you made one you’ll be hooked.
Yet Another Flower

I thought I would give you a little teaser on the next flower video that I’m in the process of making.
Again, this is using the TH Alterations Tattered Floral die cut. This is a combination of distressed inks and Copic Markers along with some pattern card stock.
So stay tuned, I’ll try to get this video up this weekend.
Summer Is All About Flip-Flops
Not long ago I bought this cute $1 stamp at M’s of these flip-flops and I decided I needed to make a card.
I was bound and determined to use the paper and items for this card out of what I had on hand.
To challenge myself I decided I would use the vellum to stamp the flip-flops on and color them with Copic markers.
Memento ink is the best ink to use with Copics, it does not smear when you color over it.
Here are the colors I used on the 3 sets of flip-flops.
When using vellum and Copic markers you would stamp on the front and then color from the back. This gives a very muted coloring when complete. The reason you do that is because the Copics will sit on top of the vellum and not soak into the paper. However, I didn’t like the look and did both, I colored on the back and on the front.
I left the straps uncolored because I was going to use a new product I got at the Arlington Craft show several months ago.
This is called Write & Rub Foiling Pen and it is made by Tonertex Foils Ltd. You can find them at www.tonertex.com. They are located in the UK. When you open this pen it looks like a regular ballpoint pen; however, what comes out is an acid free, water based glue.
You put the glue where you want it on your project and let it dry. It stays tacky after it is dry and then you can take foil or powdered glitter and rub across it and it sticks. No mess at all.
These are the powdered glitter that you use with this pen and the colors are so vibrant.
All you have to do is stick your finger in the powered glitter and then rub it on the area where you put the Write & Rub glue.
The glitter comes off your finger and sticks.
I did it over a coffee filter and this is how much mess or left over glitter that came off my finger.
Sweeeeeeet!
How cute are these flip-flops. Summer is computer printed and I attached the vellum to the card stock with a couple of brads.
Here is what I did for the inside and my sentiment on the inside is going to be “It’s all about the flip-flops”. I had a friend introduce me to Yellow Box shoes and since I tried my first pair that is the only brand of flip-flops I buy. They are so comfortable and cute too boot!
I think I’m going to send her this card and tell her thanks!
I also used a little green Stickles on the flip-flops on the paper inside.
I used various ribbons I had in my stash and the colors of the card makes me smile.
The punch is a EK punch that I modified and there is a little stitching. With just $1 stamp and a little imagination you can get a cute card…..don’t you think?
Ok, just to clarify I do not get paid to make any reviews or endorsements for the products used in this card or post.
Copic Tutorial – Hot Tub Bunny
I love this little bunny stamp relaxing in the hot tub.
I have colored this using the Magic Color Pencil Technique (a.k.a. MCPT). This technique can be found in this earlier post.
These are the colors I used for the hot tub. I’m also coloring on a shimmer paper and because it has a coating on it the Copic markers sit on top of the paper and when you look the coloring up close it will look a little blotchy; however, when on a card or layout at the regular distance they look blended.
I used E00 first and colored the hot tub all over, then with E11, I started building my shading. Following the shading that came with the stamp.
I used E33 next and then followed again with E00. Next comes E37 and E09, then blending with E00 again. I used E09 on the bands to give the hot tub a little definition so all the wood would not look the same.
I decided to color the bunny in shades of gray so she wouldn’t blend in with the hot tub.
W1, W3 and W7 are a warm shade of gray and this compliments the warm brown shades I used on the hot tub.
Use W1 all over the bunnies body and then start building the depth with W3. The W7 is used sparingly because it is really dark, but it enhances the areas like the inner ear and under the neck, along the upper tummy and where the feet overlap.
R81 and R85 are the final colors that I used to enhance the checks, ear, tummy and nose.
I first used R81 to color the areas and then used R85 sparingly to add a little depth.
I took a multi-liner and drew in the mouth and gave her some eyelashes.
Oh, I think she is relaxing and you know that hot tub is just the right temperature.
Another Jumbo Clothes Pen
I needed to make another Jumbo Clothes Pen for work. The new employee was a man so I wanted to be sure and not make it girly.
The pen is red and I actually got the paper at M’s at $.59. Since we use these for messages I thought the finger point to the end that would hold the message was appropriate.
I had a Texas stamp so I cut that out and used glossy accents to give it a little body and then added a red star approximately where our office is located.
Some ivory twill ribbon and believe it or not that is the tab from a soda can that I took my Copic marker to and made it red.
I think the tab from the soda can makes a great buckle and since Copics color everything you can have them in whatever color you need.
Look pretty manly to me.
I found the Jumbo Clothes Pens at M’s in their $10 for $10 spot. If you want to see the other pens I did you can see them here. These can be dressed up so cute for a little of nothing. What a great way to use your scraps and who doesn’t need a message holder. I could see letting the kids make there own and standing them up to hold messages.
